Wi-chian maat: Si Sawat, where have you been?
สีสวาด: ไปสำรวจรอบ ๆ บ้าน เผื่อจะมีหนูมารบกวนกัดข้าวของที่บ้านเรา
Si Sawat: I’ve been checking around the house for mice that’ll gnaw on the possessions in our home.
วิเชียรมาศ: ชั้น(ฉัน)ก็ไปตรวจดูแล้วเหมือนกัน เรียบร้อยดี
Wi-chian maat: I’ve also just checked. Everything’s in order.
สีสวาด: เห็นดาวนั้นมั้ย(ไหม) สดใสจังนะ
Si Sawat: See that star over there? It’s so bright, right?!
วิเชียรมาศ: ดาวอะไรมาขึ้นตอนเช้า
Wi-chian maat: What star would appear in the morning?
สีสวาด: ดาวประกายพรึกไงจ๊ะ ขึ้นตอนเช้าเป็นดาวดวงที่ใหญ่ที่สุด และเป็นดวงที่มองเห็นเด่นชัดที่สุด หรือจะเรียกว่า ดาวพระศุกร์ ก็ได้
Si Sawat: That’s none other than ‘Bpra-gaai-preuk’, appearing in the morning as the largest star, the one that can be seen most prominently. It’s also known as Venus.
วิเชียรมาศ: ดวงเดียวกันมีสองชื่อเหรอ
Wi-chian maat: Are we talking about one star having two different names?
สีสวาด: ใช่ ดวงเดียวกันนั่นแหละ เรียกว่า ดาวประกายพรึก ก็ได้ ดาวพระศุกร์ ก็ได้
Si Sawat: Yes, we are talking about the same star. It can be called ‘Bpra-gaai-preuk’ or Venus.
ผู้บรรยาย: ชื่อดาวประกายพรึก ประกาย แปลว่า ดาว พรึก แปลว่า รุ่งเช้า ประกายพรึก จึงแปลว่า ดาวรุ่ง คือดาวที่เห็นในเวลาเช้ามืด เรียกว่า ดาวพระศุกร์ ก็ได้
Narrator: ‘Daao Bpra-gaai-preuk’: ‘bpra-gaai’ means ‘star’ and ‘preuk’ means ‘morning’ and that’s why ‘Bpra-gaai-preuk’ means ‘morning star’, that is the star that can be seen during the period before the break of dawn. Also known as Venus.

‘Bpra-gaai-preuk’ (ประกายพรึก) here means ‘Morning Star’, most commonly used as a name for the planet Venus (ดาวพระศุกร์) when it appears in the east before sunrise. Venus is also the ‘Evening Star’ (ดาวประจำเมือง). The ancients first thought the two were separate stars and later realized it was the same star appearing as the harbinger of the Sun in the east and marking the end of the day in the west.
